How is effective communication best accomplished? It's important to ask lots of questions right away, dig into the details, agree upon design goals and provide regular updates to the client. Keep everybody in the loop. Communicate via the client's preferred method. And, most importantly, respond in a timely manner to any correspondance coming from the client or team members.
So often when a project veers off course, it's because there is a misunderstanding early on. The client wants one thing and the designer believes the client wants something else. Through experience, I've learned to prevent these misunderstandings with clear communication throughout the process.
In addition to my experience as a designer, I worked as a project manager for the interactive design team at Harley-Davidson Creative Services. This position taught me many valuable lessons. My experience there helped me to understand the importance of effective communication throughout a design project.
